On 15th May 1901, Mr Osmond Tonks, a solicitor from England enrolled in Kenya at Mombasa and on 9th December 1901, Mr Bertlam Grey Allen, an Irish Solicitor, also enrolled in Mombasa. On 1st December 1902, these two gentlemen were in partnership under the name of “Tonks and Allen” which was based in Mombasa. There were some changes in the partnership between then and 1st January 1916 when the firm of “Allen & Hamilton” was formed. On 1st January 1927, Allen & Hamilton merged with the firm of Harrison & Cresswell to form the firm Hamilton Harrison & Mathews.
